What can I use in my Infinite products?

When you create your own title for Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite, you get access to a trove of resources. Your work can use any of the Pathfinder or Starfinder rules published by Paizo (with the exception of a few monsters, as listed below, plus over a decade of published material for the Lost Omens setting (previously called the Pathfinder Chronicles setting or simply the Pathfinder campaign setting) and the Starfinder setting.

As other authors create content for Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite and expand the Lost Omens setting and Starfinder setting through their titles, you then have access to use that material in turn. Was there a subplot another author didn’t fully explore? A tavern you’d like to re-use in your own adventure? All Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite authors contribute to a pool of community content that can be re-used, expanded, and explored by other authors in the Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite community.<></>

You can use artwork in the Paizo Community Use Package with the exception of logos, pregenerated character handouts, and fully laid-out PDF releases (such as adventure path player’s guides). Additionally, Paizo and Roll20 will from time to time make additional resources such as stock art, cover design templates, stat block templates, and other such assets available on the PathfinderInfinite.com or StarfinderInfinite.com sites for you to freely use in your Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite titles.

I have a new game setting I’ve developed. Can I post it to Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite?

No. The Pathfinder Infinite site is geared toward setting-neutral and Lost Omens content only. Similarly, you may only publish material that is setting-neutral or set in Starfinder setting as presented in the Starfinder Core Rulebook on Starfinder Infinite. Licenses allowing you to publish a campaign setting of your own design already exist in the Pathfinder Compatibility License and Starfinder Compatibility License, which you could then make available with your publisher account on DriveThruRPG or Paizo.com.

I want to sell my content on another digital marketplace. Can I do that?

No. Any content created under the Community Content Agreement for Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite may be distributed exclusively at PathfinderInfinite.com and StarfinderInfinite.com.

What does it mean to be selected by the Pathfinder team at Paizo?

You could be selected for any number of things. Those things include, but are not limited to, publication in an official Paizo product; inclusion in DLC or even main storylines for one of the games created by our digital partners; distinction as a member of the Infinite Masters program, etc.

Can I use iconic Pathfinder or Starfinder characters like Valeros, Triune, and the Whispering Tyrant in my Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite title?

Yes.

Can I create and sell content for other game systems on Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite?

No. The Pathfinder and Starfinder Infinite site is geared toward Pathfinder and Starfinder content only, though you may publish material for either edition of the game.

Can I copy any information from existing Pathfinder sourcebooks in my Pathfinder Infinite title?

Since rules published in Pathfinder materials are Open Game Content under the terms of the OGL, you can reprint them in full so long as you properly cite the original source in your product, as stipulated by the OGL itself. That said, it is recommended that you only include elements which are necessary for the reader to use your product, like summary stat blocks of monsters from the Bestiary. In many cases, it’s just as easy to refer the Game Master to the Core Rulebook or other source instead of reprinting the existing rule entirely.

In short, avoid copying large sections of Paizo titles. Stick to summary information needed and not easily referenced.

For non-rules elements you can reference material from existing Paizo titles, but must present that information in a new way, using your own words.

Can I convert old Pathfinder content from earlier editions to Pathfinder Second Edition and publish it on Pathfinder Infinite?

With some restrictions, the answer is yes. You can convert magic items, monsters, character classes, spells, etc. from earlier edition books to Pathfinder Second Edition and publish your conversion at PathfinderInfinite.com.

There is one exception:

You can’t make any direct, full reprints of classic adventures converted to Pathfinder Second Edition. If you want to publish something based around a classic adventure like Rise of the Runelords or The Emerald Spire Superdungeon, then you could consider options like:

  • a distinctly new Pathfinder Second Edition adventure that is perhaps a prequel or sequel to the classic adventure content;
  • a streamlined, bare-bones conversion guide for someone who already owns the classic adventure (i.e., encounter-by-encounter conversion notes with any Pathfinder Second Edition stats needed, leaving out all other content); or
  • a unique take in the spirit of the classic adventure. Rather than simply convert the Emerald Spire to the new edition, why not create and present your own superdungeon located somewhere else in the world?

Can I produce translations of existing products in another language?

While you can publish new content in any language on Pathfinder and Starfinder Infinite, the Infinite license does not grant you translation rights to existing content. If an existing translator already exists for the language in question, please contact them directly regarding creating translated material for them. If you wish to translate Paizo content into another language, please contact licensing@paizo.com to inquire about establishing a formal translation relationship.

Can I make content set in the Lost Omens campaign setting using the Starfinder rules?

Yes! You can also make content set in the Pact Worlds using Pathfinder rules. When doing so, consider the rules set of the content you’re selling when determining which Infinite marketplace and branding to use. For example, an adventure set in Numeria using the Starfinder RPG would be a Starfinder Infinite product, despite taking place in the Lost Omens campaign setting. Conversely, an adventure set on Akiton after the Gap but using Pathfinder RPG rules would be a Pathfinder Infinite product. When “crossing the streams” make sure you clarify within the product and in its store listing what setting the content was made for.

Can I publish comic books, novels, spell cards, item cards, etc., on Pathfinder Infinite?

Yes. We encourage the creation and use of new game aids and accessories, as well as non-game stories based in the Lost Omens setting.

What file types am I allowed to sell/distribute on Infinite?

Most products tend to be PDFs or image files, designed to be read on a screen or printed, but other file types are allowed to enable users to incorporate the content of their purchases into other tools and applications. For instance, JSON or other file types may be sold which are used to import content into the purchaser's personal VTT or character builder/tracking applications.

As with other products, any content created under the Community Content Agreement for Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite must be distributed exclusively at PathfinderInfinite.com and StarfinderInfinite.com.

See other sections of this page for specific file types that are disallowed.

Can I publish erotica?

In terms of how graphic your content can be, character (or monster!) romance is fine, but nothing so explicit that it would be considered erotica. Please keep your content safely within the parameters of a PG-13 film rating.

Can I post 3D-printable assets like miniatures or props (STLs or OBJs)?

Not at this time. We are looking into allowing such content on Pathfinder and Starfinder Infinite in the future, but do not currently permit it.

Can I publish queer content?

Sure! Queer characters are more than welcome here.

Can I publish adventures and cards for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game?

Yes. You may create your own scenarios, storybooks, and custom cards using the templates provided by Paizo and Roll20.

We offer a few ways to create custom Pathfinder Adventure Card Game cards:

  1. Use the templates provided to create print-at-home (print-n-play) digital files.

  2. Use the POD templates to create a print-on-demand print-ready PDF. You must adhere to the specs found here. Also, a card file must contain at least 10 cards and no more than 250 cards. Files should be submitted to brian@roll20.net for review/upload. Once he approves the file, you’ll be sent instructions on how to order  a proof. When you receive your proof, you’ll notify us that all looks good and the title is ready to be made Public on Pathfinder Infinite.

  3. For the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game 1st Edition, you can create cards using the custom card creator at DriveThruCards. These cards are not associated with the Pathfinder Infinite program.

Can I sell my Pathfinder Infinite title in print as well as PDF?

At this time, Pathfinder Infinite does not offer any print-on-demand service unless you are an Infinite Master and meet the requirements. However, we will continue to monitor activity and feedback from the community regarding offering them to everyone in the future.

However, as noted above, you can offer printed-on-demand cards for Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.

What are other rules or requirements for my content?

Neither your Work nor any promotional material, including blog posts or press releases, may contain racist, homophobic, discriminatory, or other repugnant views; overt political agendas or views; depictions or descriptions of criminal violence against children; rape or other acts of criminal perversion; or other obscene material without the express written permission of Paizo Inc. in a document separate from this License.

Illegal and Infringing content is not allowed. It is the content creator’s responsibility to ensure that their content does not violate laws, or copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.

Create, don’t copy.We reserve the right to stop publishing and selling your work if we think it goes against the spirit of the Infinite program. All authors should respectfully use the content originally created by Paizo or other Infinite creators. For example, if a Pathfinder Infinite author releases a trilogy of adventures, and another author takes those three adventures, compiles them, and republishes them as a single collection without substantive original additions or changes, then we would stop publishing and selling that collected work because it adds no value to the Pathfinder Infinite community content. It’s simply one author copying another author’s work and looking to make a royalty on it.

Similarly, if a Infinite creator publishes a book about Absalom and simply copies the text from existing sourcebooks on Absalom without adding to or expanding upon that content, we would stop publishing and selling that product because it also adds no value to the Pathfinder Infinite community content, and could negatively affect Paizo’s ability to sell the original source material from which it copied content. Alternatively, a Pathfinder Infinite creator could publish a book about Absalom that compiled and restated in their own words existing information on the city, while also adding new content of their own creation.
